Modern Foreign Languages
Our curriculum offers the opportunity to inspire our pupils’ minds with new ideas and insights into different cultures. As a department, we are passionate about our subjects, sharing best practice and challenging ourselves and our pupils further at every opportunity. Our curriculum is also designed to equip pupils with all of the skills they will need to both succeed at GCSE, A Level and beyond.
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, two languages are on offer: French and German. Our aim is to show our pupils how important languages are and we are dedicated to providing the opportunity for our pupils to enjoy learning languages and to develop the skills needed to communicate with others. We will develop their awareness and understanding of the culture and identity of other countries as well as the language. Our pupils have the opportunity to continue to GCSE.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, two languages are on offer: French and German. The aim of studying a modern language at GCSE level is to broaden our pupils’ horizons and encourage them to step beyond familiar cultural boundaries as well as developing new ways of seeing the world. Studying a language at GCSE will encourage pupils to develop their ability and desire to communicate confidently and coherently with native speakers.
Academic intervention is incredibly beneficial for our students. We hold the following extra-support classes as well as clubs for those who would like to devote more time to their MFL:
Mfl Support for all Years – Monday/Thursday/Friday
GCSE Speaking Support – Friday Mornings
German Interventions for Year 11 – Thursdays after school
