Pupils who are interested in design, as well as construction and other vocational areas relating to the construction industry will be interested in this course, which prepares them for further qualifications in this vocational area as well as apprenticeships in the industry.

Pupils benefit from bespoke facilities; we have a purpose built state of the art skills centre specifically for Construction where pupils  have the equipment and facilities to carry out the course effectively.

Unit 2: Scientific and Mathematical This is a coursework based unit where pupils will understand the effects of forces and temperature changes on materials used in construction and use mathematical techniques to solve construction problems.

Unit 3: Construction and Design. This is a coursework based unit where pupils learn about  the work of the construction industry,  understand a client’s needs to develop a design brief for a low-rise building and produce a range of initial sketch ideas to meet the requirements of a client brief for a low-rise building.

Unit 5: Exploring Carpentry and Joinery Principles and Techniques which is another coursework based unit where pupils  learn about  tools, materials and equipment used in carpentry and joinery and develop practical skills using safe techniques to produce a timber frame.
