Governing Body

Governors

In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing bodies, the three core strategic functions of the Gable Hall Governing Body are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  2. Holding the Principal to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

This is why our model allows member schools the autonomy to lead and manage in a way that preserves their individual identity and responds to specific community needs, while unifying them through:

  • a shared vision and shared objectives and values
  • partnership working in key areas such as leadership, professional development and sharing best practice in pedagogy
  • a relentless focus on an exceptional quality of teaching and learning systemic change and the raising of aspirations and career planning

As with all schools, Gable Hall School Governing Body is made up of representatives of the Local Authority, parents, teachers and members of the local community.The Governors are responsible for the general direction of the school. They take decisions concerning staffing, curriculum, and finance.

Governors are appointed by the Governing Body and are people who, in the opinion of the Governing Body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. Detailed pen portraits which highlight the skills our Governors bring to their role can be found on the school website.The term of office of all categories of Governor is four years.

The full governing body meet at least once a term to discuss the needs and achievements of the school.

Future Plans for the Governors

  • To ensure that the appropriate training programme supports Governors’ developing knowledge of education and financial systems.

  • To ensure that Governors have the opportunity to involve themselves in the full life of the school community in order to broaden their understanding of their role and the impact their actions can have.

In addition to this, the Governing Body will support the Principal and the staff in the school in achieving the following school improvement targets:

  • To further develop the quality of education ensuring we continue to improve outcomes for students;
  • To further develop our pastoral systems to ensure all students are effectively supported;
  • To further the personal development of our students;
  • Continue to develop leadership across the school.

As a former French Teacher, at Ortu Gable Hall, I have an ingrained passion for Teaching and Learning. Having taught pupils of ages 11-18, I was promoted to Advanced Skills Teacher, which used my love of teaching to support, guide and advise others, both in this school and other local Secondary Schools, to raise standards in education. I enjoyed the challenge of seeking strategies that would enable pupils to best access the curriculum and provide high aspirations for all, regardless of their starting point. Whilst my chosen subject was French, my real passion was providing individuals with the principles of learning, equipping them with the skills necessary for lifelong development.

I have also thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of volunteering in a local primary school, where I have supported small groups of younger children, which has served to provide a useful insight into an early phase of education.

As a parent to a pupil in year 10, a local resident, and an ex pupil of Gable Hall, I am personally committed to playing an active role in the ongoing success story of both the school and the sixth form.
