Performing Arts

The course is designed to enable you to study other subjects alongside your BTEC level 2 Diploma. It consists of four core units plus two specialist units and one non-specialist unit, which provide a total of 360 guided learning hours. The structure of the course allows you to develop your interests and gain a broad foundation, and it introduces you to areas, such as production processes, working in the industry and exploring backstage work.

Key Stage 4

There are 3 core units that pupils must do:

1:  Unit 1 - Individual Showcase

This unit aims to give learners the opportunity to present themselves in a way you may do so for potential employers.  You will select and prepare an audition piece or design presentation to be performed / presented to a visiting examiner.  You will also produce a portfolio of application and research material.

2: Unit 2 - Preparation , Performance and Production

This aim of this unit is to develop your understanding of the essential processes required for staging a performance, including all technical and administrative procedures. It also fosters an understanding of the need for teamwork and cooperation.  You will work in small teams and will produce, plan and carry out a performing arts event of your choosing.  Your paperwork, budget and event will become the evidence for this unit.

3: Unit 7 – Production Skills for Performance

The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge of all areas backstage.  You will explore and learn technical skills and will review your own practice.  You will also have to demonstrate your technical skills during the production process.  During this unit you will be expected to rig and de-rig equipment and accessories, focus and control lighting and sound.  In addition to this you will need to research and keep a portfolio of written work.
